TrueVIN turns a car's mileage and history into the one thing that actually matters: what it is worth after the repairs it is about to need.

The 4 steps

1. Paste a listing or enter a VIN

Drop in a CarGurus, Autotrader, or Carvana link and we auto-read the VIN, price, mileage, owners, and accident count. Or type them in yourself.

2. We pull the car's real record

Live vehicle decode plus its recall, complaint, and known-failure history, so we know what actually breaks on that year, make, and model.

3. We predict the looming maintenance

We map the car's current mileage against the manufacturer's maintenance schedule and typical repair costs (adjusted for luxury brands, where parts and labor run far higher) to estimate what is due in the next 30,000 miles and what it will cost.

4. You get the true value + a call

A maintenance-adjusted value, a money-pit risk score, a target/walk-away price, and a clear buy, negotiate, or walk recommendation.

The formula, in plain English

The market price already assumes an average car for its mileage. So we only adjust for the difference between this specific car and the average:

True value = market value + (what an average car this age owes , what THIS car owes)

More looming than average (nothing done, high-cost items due) , worth below market.
Less looming than average (records show the big work is done) , worth above market. This is the whole point: a well-kept car is worth paying up for.
Accident history is subtracted from value and raises the risk score, the thing the big sites quietly ignore.

Where the data comes from

Vehicle specs, recalls, and complaints come from the U.S. government's public NHTSA databases. Maintenance schedules and repair costs come from established automotive-data sources. Market value comes from live listing comparisons. We continually improve the model against real-world outcomes.

What it is not

TrueVIN is a research tool, not a mechanic and not a guarantee. It tells you what is likely and what it costs so you can negotiate and buy informed. For a specific car you are serious about, we will always recommend a pre-purchase inspection.
